When a songbird strikes

6:47am This bird has bright white eyes, glossy black plumage with indigo blue tints in the tail, and a throat ruff of long thick feathers. Ironically, given the plumage, the beak is not black like a currawong's, which resembles ebony. It sang briefly, the familiar warble often heard, low pitched, the throat swelling. The decorative feathers waggle, presumably seductively, as it sings.

But e
ven before the hunter landed, the prey had scurried away into the safety of the gap under the ridge sheet.

Something promising moved in the trees on the other side of Macleay St.

The wind spoiled things, branches whipping around and leaves falling in gusts. If there was ever any prey it escaped.

Only one thing left to do: time to fly.

postscript: Seems I have encountered one of these kinky birds before!

Subtle palette

An interesting patch on the ABN AMRO building during today's sunrise. The reflection of the eastern skyline and the sun on the horizon is mirrored in the steel ventilator in the foregound.

Jupiter

Jupiter stands out brightly in the otherwise unseeing city sky.

Venus accompanied

Venus stands out, appropriately enough for a Friday night, with Mercury a faint smudge higher to the south. Mercury is much more apparent in the original photos.

All three are visible here, with Mars being faintest.

Spring reflections

The hemisphere tilts into spring. Another building takes the full brunt of the rising sun.
