Not to be outdone

The bat (batty fox or foxy bat?) continues to visit the tree every night.

Pretending to be just hanging around. Who sir, me sir?

Peek-a-boo!!

Do the horizontal

The lorikeets have been sucking the sap for many months and it seems to have knocked them sideways.

Hopelessly hooked on palm syrup.

Days of their lives

They are totally obsesssed with this tree.

A rare moment when the branch wasn't being whittled away by a sap sucker.

Tenacious

as well as foxy, totally bat foxy for palm sugar

Normally I don't process photos but I did an auto correct on the one above which better shows what's happening.

This shot has auto correct also.

Under cover of the night

A bat takes the night shift. I'm not sure whether this is a flying fox or a fruit bat. It's definitely a foxy winged fruit eating warm blood of some sort.

Sensitive to my presence, it stops what it is doing and hangs motionless this way every time I move in to take a picture. It can detect every little sound. Who knows what it makes of the flash.

Just a harmless bat and that's my story.

Gotcha! Foxy after all.

Look at it now

I assume that the fuition of the palm tree has been so far highly successful. It has attracted a non stop stream of animals and birds. In two or three weeks the fruiting branch has gone from riotous abundance to a mere remnant.

The well gnawed tip . .

Nice plumage

I want candy

The more timid sap suckers wait for the very rare moments when the lorikeets are busy elsewhere. They try to make up for it though.
Sluuuuurrrrrp!!

The branch is being ferociously stripped back by the local wildlife. On the 16th it was lavishly profuse.

Insatiable

The lorikeets totally dominate this food source.

Unapologenetically pwned!!

Sugar time

Nature is ruthless when it's time to eat

And while ever there is a reliable source of food,  the most ruthless will get the most.

And don't they know it!!

I didn't realise how camera friendly these birds were.
